Ascending triangle
Flat ceiling, rising floor
What it is
Price repeatedly reaches a similar high while its lows step upward, compressing into the horizontal level.
What it may suggest
Buyers are paying more each time while sellers defend one price. A close above the ceiling is the pattern completing.
Where it fails
It breaks upward more often than not, about 63% of the time in one large measured sample, which still leaves more than a third breaking down. Entering before the break is how most of the losses in this pattern happen.
Also called ascending triangle breakout, rising triangle.
