Descending triangle

Flat floor, falling ceiling

What it is

A repeated low with progressively lower highs, squeezing price down onto the horizontal support.

What it may suggest

Sellers accept less each time while buyers defend one level. A close below the floor completes it.

Where it fails

Despite the name it breaks upward slightly more often than downward, measured at 53% upward across more than 1,300 trades. The flat floor is obvious enough that stops stack beneath it, which is exactly what makes it worth sweeping.

Also called falling triangle.
