Launch spike
A near-vertical first move, then a long fade
What it is
The shape most new tokens trace: a steep rise in the first minutes or hours as attention arrives, a peak, then a drawn-out decline on falling volume as it leaves.
What it may suggest
The steep part is usually over before a chart of it is worth reading. A fade on shrinking volume suggests interest leaving rather than a base forming.
Where it fails
Recognizing the shape does not let you time it. The spike is only identifiable as a spike once it has ended, and plenty of tokens fade for days without ever finding a level. Assuming a bounce because the fall looks far enough is not a read.
Also called launch pump, initial spike, post-spike fade.
